Volunteer to Start Something

Donate your time to help a child reach his or her potential.
It could be the start of something Big for both of you!

Volunteering is big time fun!

Being a Big Brother, Big Sister, or volunteering together with a spouse as a Big Couple may be one of the most enjoyable things you’ll ever do. Not to mention, one of the most fulfilling. You have the opportunity to help shape a child’s future for the better by empowering him or her to achieve. And the best part is, it’s actually a lot of fun. You and your assigned Little Brother or Sister can share the kinds of activities you already like to do.

Play sports together. Go on a hike at Brush Creek Park or paddle a kayak at Raccoon State Park. Set out on a quest to discover who makes the best steak salad or ice cream sundae in the county! Attend agency-sponsored activities offered at no cost such as the Christmas party, the Annual Picnic at Brady’s Run Park, or a trip to a Pirate game. The possibilities are endless! Whatever it is you enjoy, odds are you’ll enjoy it even more with a Little Brother or Sister—and you’ll be making a life-changing impact.

Think you want to be a Big Brother, Big Sister or Couple?

Volunteering just a few hours a month with a child can start something amazing. So why not apply to be a Big today? There are kids out there ready to get started. Are you ready to start something?

Matches between Bigs and Littles are made based on compatibility, shared interests, geographic convenience and are supported by staff. Volunteers in our community mentoring programs meet the following requirements:

  • 18 years old and older
  • Have a valid driver’s license & access to insured, reliable transportation
  • Reside in Beaver County or nearby
  • Complete an application which includes references, police check, clearances, orientation, and interview.
  • Agree to see the assigned child on a weekly or semi-weekly basis for at least 18 months.

Children in the program are aged 6 through 12 and live in a home that lacks the involved and supportive participation of one or both parents. Referrals are accepted from parents, educators or social service agencies.

There are 80 boys ready and waiting to be matched with Big Brothers or Couples right now… that’s more than triple the number of girls waiting for a Big Sister.

You can also make a donation or support special events – such as our Bowl for Kids’ Sake or Autumn Auction – to help fund the careful one-to-one matching and ongoing professional mentoring support unique to Big Brothers Big Sisters. Your gift will help match a child facing adversity with an adult mentor. The gift you make today will lead to successful outcomes for that child and his or her community. Whether you get involved as a volunteer or as a donor, we welcome and thank you for your support!
